October 29, 2025 - Rochester Alumni Continue The Tradition of Gathering for Another Local Reunion

For the past several years, a core group of dedicated alumni based in the Rochester area get together for some cold ones and to share some stories and shared memories. It's always a great time. ANY Rochester area alumni of Gamma is welcome. Here's a picture of this year's gathering. These guys are just as proud to be in Gamma as the day they finished pledging decades ago..

These are the kinds of lifelong bonds and friendships you forge by being in an iconic organization like Sigma Gamma Fraternity.

October 20, 2025 - Gamma Bros Join Forces With The Lovely Ladies From AePhi & Phi Sig To Clean Up The Lakeshore

We are delighted to have developed a now long-standing tradition of gathering with our friends, the terrific ladies of AePhi & Phi Sig to clean up the shores of Lake Ontario. We've been doing this for several years now and we have a lot of fun while working hard for a good cause. Afterwards, we get together and socialize. It's a win - win all around in every way, and helps us keep close ties to sororities we know well.

Way to go brothers! Sigma Gamma takes pride in upholding meaningful traditions. It's a big part of who we are.

Are you reading this while sitting in a dorm room wondering how to make lifelong friendships like these?  If you want to be the next era of difference makers for Sigma Gamma Fraternity, then step up and connect with us!

October 17, 2025 - Alumni Peter Devine Digs Out & Shares A Classic Bro Wedding Shot From 35 Years Ago

October 11, 2025 - Gamma Bros Honor Their Elders By Continuing The Tradition Of Having a Toga Party

In 1978, the classic movie Animal House was released.  This set in motion the since long standing tradition of holding an annual Toga (Date) Party. For many years, Sigma Gamma brothers have proudly upheld this tradition. There have been some years in the past decade where this tradition has slipped because it felt "uncool" to have college students dress like a Toga Party requires. But, our alumni continue to vociferously insist that we honor our traditions. So we held one this fall.

So, here is a picture that is an instant classic. Many eras of Gamma alumni will look at this picture and instantly smile.

Traditions. It's what we do in Gamma. Toga, Toga, Toga... our alumni can hear that phrase just by looking at this classic picture.

Picture yourself in this kind of instant classic?  If you want to be the next era of difference makers for Sigma Gamma Fraternity, then step up and connect with us!

 Go Greek, GO GAMMA.

October 3, 2025 - Sigma Gamma Congratulates Psi Phi Gamma On Their 100th Anniversary

Sigma Gamma is delighted to extend congratulations to the Psi Phi Gamma Fraternity on their 100th anniversary milestone. What a great accomplishment!

From 1957 to 1992, our fraternity houses were just down the block from one another. Many generations of Gamma brothers enjoyed close friendships with the guys in Psi Phi and we tip our hats to a great organization with rich history.

Here's a picture from their anniversary gathering. There's 160 Psi Phi brothers in this picture and many more were in attendance throughout the weekend.

Cheers!

September 30, 2025 - 90's Era Bros Buffalo Bills Road Trip

Every era of Gamma bros form bonds that are incredibly close. Those bonds don't break just because time as an active brother in Oswego finishes up. Here is a close knit group of early to mid 90's bros who enjoy hanging together just as much now as they did back in the day. They're gathering for a Bills game naturally.

You won't develop these kinds of lifelong friendships spending your college career in the dorms and the library.

Always a Brother!

September 25, 2025 - Sigma Gamma Mourns the Passing of Gamma Legend John "Shoe" Shoemaker, 68

Sigma Gamma Fraternity mourns the passing of John Reid Shoemaker, Jr., 68 years old. John pledged in 1976 and was a much beloved brother who was the epitome of the phrase, "the nicest guy on the planet". A true gentleman and a delight to see at every reunion, which John made a point of attending. Shoe showed a genuine interest to relate to and meet all eras of brothers. John  was always quick to add his unique wit and share his many stories about his time as an active brother. Many described John as one of the most genuine guys they've ever had the privilege to know. John will be missed greatly. His composite picture from 1976 is pictured here.

September 6, 2025 - Sigma Gamma Alumni From the Late 60's - Early 70's Gather For Yet Another "Old Farts Chicken Bake" at Black Lake

Every year, in the beginning of September a core group of Gamma alumni from the late 1960's - early 1970's gather at Mel McLear's campground at Black Lake for an Old Farts Chicken Bake. It's so awesome to see this tradition carried out every year. Wives and significant others are invited too.

These pictures are testimonial proof of the close bonds that Sigma Gamma brothers are known for. A special shoutout to Mel and his wife for the fantastic hosting and Jim Moses for organizing the shenanigans and cocktail menus.

Sigma Gamma alumni Frank "Dewey" Famiglietti, an early 1990's bro, stumbled on this classic Gamma Formal favor from Spring 1974 on eBay of all places. Naturally, Frank scooped it up and sent it up to Oswego as a donation to the active brothers. Awesome!

We don't know how it ended up on eBay, but we're psyched to have it back in Oswego! Thanks Frank, you're a stud!

Also, if any Gamma alumni have stuff they want to donate, please send it to us in Oswego.

The Hewitt Union was a student gathering hub in the 1960's - 1990's and it's recently been repurposed and renovated for use by the Communications Dept.

Take a look at the signage in the background! Wow!

July 22, 2025 - Sigma Gamma Congratulates Richard Bush, Professor and Chair of Technology Education on Receiving the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service

Decades of outstanding work in teaching, leadership, organization, volunteering and community support recently earned Richard Bush, professor and chair of technology education, the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service.

A two-time technology education graduate of SUNY Oswego, Bush joined the faculty of his alma mater in 1998 and impacted generations of students through his skills as a teacher, his commitment to student success and dedication to the campus and community.

In nominating Bush for the prestigious honor, Laura Spenceley –- dean of the College of Education, Health and Human Services -– cited his “exemplary leadership and dedication” as “the driving force behind numerous campus-wide events and a steadfast presence on campus.”

Named the Technology and Engineering Educators Collegiate Association’s Outstanding National Advisor in 2022, Bush not only prepares students for the competition through his knowledge and teaching skills, but also coaches and supports them in any way he can, including long stints driving a van across several states to student competitions and conferences.

Way to lead by example Professor Busch! Nicely done sir.

July 19, 2025 - Oswego County Historian's Office Posts Archive Posts Archive Photo of the Old ASA (Alpha Sigma Chi) Sorority House

The ASA House was a terrific house right next to the Elks Lodge. Alpha Sigma Chi is THE OLDEST sorority at SUNY Oswego. Generations of Gamma bros enjoyed partying at that house. Our alumni shared with us how many bros enjoyed sliding down the front hall bannister. Sadly, in fall 1983 it was knocked down so that the Elks Lodge could build a parking lot.

Here is a picture of the house and the write up that accompanied the post.

The Alpha Sigma Chi Sorority House, on West Fifth Street, Oswego. This was demolished in 1983 and became part of the Elk's Club property. Originally, it was quite a magnificent home. - Oswego County Historian's Office

Many of you may have heard of the well known brand of Lupo's marinades, but you may not be aware that in fact, these tasty sauces are made by the still family owned and managed Lupo's of Endicott, NY headed up by our own Sam Lupo, a Gamma alumni who pledged in 1976.

Here's a recent picture of Sam and a link that provides more info on his family's backstory. Pick up some tasty Lupo's at a retailer near you. Keep up the great work Sam!

His family asked that those who knew Frederic plant a tree in his memory.

RIP Brother. Always a brother.

June 10, 2025 - Bros Are Everywhere, Including at NYC's Grand Central

There is an old saying in Gamma that every bro knows first hand. "Bro's Are Everywhere", which we say when bros unexpectedly run into each other in various locations. Such as this shot, featuring Spring 2022 pledge brothers (now alumni) Max "Iron" Leifert and Mike "Chipper" Kennelly who ran into each other in Grand Central Terminal in NYC as Max was en route to a Mets game.

When you pledge Gamma, you make friends for life.  All Gamma bros are tight, that's a given and a core hallmark of our fraternity. But, there's no closer bond than your own pledge bro.

Do you want to make close friends for life like this? Then, get out of your dorm room or dining hall and introduce yourself to the bros.

Sigma Gamma is all about tradition. One tradition, of many, that we're proud of, is starting off Alumni Weekend in June at the historic Press Box on East 1st Street. This great bar/restaurant is owned by the legendary Canale Family with whom Gamma has always enjoyed close ties. It's really an awesome sight as an alumni to walk into the Press Box and see the place filled up with eras of Gamma legends. What a fantastic way to kick off Alumni Weekend!

Our active President Paul O'Brien was in attendance and he went up to each alumni present, introduced himself and asked alumni to share their awesome and inspiring stories to bring back to the active brothers. To be a fly on the wall for those candid conversations!

June 4, 2025 - Pat "Barbone" Barbieri Ensuring That The Gamma Green & Gold Color Combo Continues To Bring Good Fortune at Saratoga Race Track

Sometimes a picture tells 1,000 words without a single word used, Here's a picture that expresses that sentiment. Pictured is alumni Pat "Barbone" Barbieri at Saratoga Race Track for the temporarily relocated Belmont Stakes Race. Green and gold. There really is no other power color combination out there. Barbone doing his part to ensure good luck and good fortune for the fraternity as a whole. We love seeing alumni leading the way.

May 7, 2025 - Strak's Classic PM Book From S'88 Unearthed - Customized For a Left Handed Gamma Stud

Every semester, Gamma's Pledge Master keeps an organized PM Book to plan out the program and document milestones along the way. These are sacred books that every era of Gamma bros can relate to.

Here's a recently unearthed PM from Spring 1988 when Mike "Strak"/"Checkov" Strakhov served as Gamma PM. Strak is left handed so his book was customized for a lefty. Pretty cool.

April 27, 2025 - Sigma Gamma Carries Out the Formal Inductions Rituals, Officially Welcoming New Brothers to our Iconic Fraternity

Alumni Advisers Peter Devine, Bill Testa, and G Gagnier were on hand to personally oversee and execute yet another Formal Inductions Ceremony in Oswego. This year's ceremony was even more special as it featured the induction of two new brothers who are the sons of Gamma brothers. Making the occasion even more memorable was the presence of the dads (Ray Laschet and Cory MacLaren) who had the once in a lifetime experience of personally welcoming their sons into the fraternity. It was just an awesome all around day. Some other alumni also made the effort to be on hand which we all appreciated.

Sigma Gamma takes pride in upholding meaningful traditions. It's a big part of who we are.

April 4, 2025 - Alumni Jan Pashley, Pledged in 1972, Passes Away

Sigma Gamma Fraternity is saddened to learn of the passing of alumni Jan Pashley, "The Beezer",73, who pledged in 1972. Jan was a very well thought of brother who was always full of good cheer and a friend to many. In his younger days, as a recent alumni, he made sure to stay in touch with the fraternity.

Jan who lived in Oswego, worked at Entergy for many years and was very involved with the Elks Club, even serving as a past Exalted Ruler at the Oswego Lodge.

A fellow brother, Mike Eysaman, shared this recollection of Jan:

"Jan was a great brother. Always stopping by 53 W Seneca to check on the actives and to tell a few stories. He would pull a PBR out of his coat pocket as he came up the walkway. RIP brother."

 RIP Brother. Always a brother.

April 3, 2025 - Alumni Adviser Bill Testa, F'84, Comes Through For The Fraternity Once Again

Sigma Gamma Alumni Advisor Bill Testa (F'84) came through for the fraternity yet again.  STUD! Earlier today, Bill met up with one of our newer brothers (Anthony "Greaser" Brescia, F'24) in Sodus to personally hand off two composites that Bill personally arranged to have printed and framed. This is how leadership by example happens and it's what we as brothers in Sigma Gamma Fraternity push each other to make happen.

These composites will look great on the walls with our other many framed composites. There's nothing like coming back as an alumni and seeing your younger self proudly included in a timeless Gamma composite.

Just to get an idea of how psyched an alumni Gamma bro is, just look at Bill's car. He graduated decades ago and yet if you look closely at his car, he's still sporting the Gamma letters on his car. Example setting!

Well done and thank you Bill!

 Go Greek, GO GAMMA.

March 30, 2025 - The Awesome Long Time Tradition of Football in Gamma Park Continues

A long time, revered tradition in our fraternity is getting together in Gamma Park to play some football. It's a great way for bros to stay athletic and also see if any friends of ours have some athletic skills, or appreciate those who may not but can make the bros laugh.

Every generation of Gamma brothers has enjoyed this great tradition, which we take pride in continuing. We specifically play ball in this off campus location instead of on campus because of the traditional importance to our organization of this park. There's just no replicating this location. Just look at the pride in each student in this group shot and it'll tell you all you need to know about the closest fraternity in Oswego.

Who knows, maybe you're not yet a brother and you're reading this and want to show off your skills?

March 21, 2025 - Even On Spring Break & 350 Miles From Oswego, Bros Are Focusing On Philanthropy

Our fraternity has long been focused on using our collective resources to help those in need. So while many in our fraternity headed to Cancun for Spring Break, not all of us did. We are really proud of our brothers who pitched in and lent their time and $$ to help out a foundation that is near and dear to our hearts. Namely, the Dylan Newman Forever 5 Foundation out on the east end of Long Island.

Dylan Newman was a young man who was hometown (Southold) friends with our brothers Brady Mahon and Connor Wilinski. Sadly, Dylan passed away of cancer last year and the brothers wanted to do something good to honor his memory. So we donated some supplies to the East End Hospice who treated Dylan.

In these pictures are Lucas Parise (Fall 2023), Brady Mahon (Spring 2024) and Eric Wuestmann (Fall 2024). 3 different pledge classes represented in doing some good together. That's how we roll in Gamma.

March 19, 2025 - Spring Break Bros Trip to Cancun!

The closest fraternity in Oswego took its show on the road. 16 of us active brothers made our way to Cancun for an awesome Spring Break trip. Bros had a blast and built even closer bonds of brotherhood. We will remember this trip for many decades to come.

March 11, 2025 - Bros Mixing It Up With Our Friends From the Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority

It's certainly no secret that Gamma brothers enjoy the company of our female friends in Oswego. We're always up for letting off a little steam and having social events with our fellow Greeks. This week, we held a terrific mixer with the ladies of Phi Sig. They were honored as Sorority of The Year last year, and are always fun to hang with. A few Gamma alumni who recently finished up their studies at SUNY Oswego made their return in style as well.

Are you reading this while sitting in a dorm room wondering how to make the most of your college experience? Well, so were the folks you see in these pictures at one point. And now, well ... as the saying goes ... just look at them. If you want to be the next era of difference makers for Sigma Gamma Fraternity, then step up and connect with us!

February 28, 2025 - Being a Gamma Bro = Lifelong Genuine Friendships

Sigma Gamma Fraternity brothers are the tightest knit group in Oswego. Hands down. Throughout the decades. We love seeing pictures of our alumni from all eras getting together and continuing to celebrate the incredible lifelong friendships made possible by one common thread --- stepping up and taking the steps needed to become a brother.

Here's a group of proud Gamma brothers who pledged more than 50 years ago! They're gathered in Florida, but their hearts and minds are always back in Oswego.

January 12, 2025 - Throwing It Back To 1979 @ the Gamma Party Room at 53

Here's a great picture of a classic moment in time. That's Tom "Ollie" Oliveri in the middle enjoying a moment in the legendary Gamma Party Room at 53. Looks like he's enjoying that moment! To his left is Gregg "Head'ER" Sargent scanning the room. Both of these guys went on to tend bar at The Wheel, on Water Street and served many a bro back in the day.

Nowadays, The Wheel is called Ferris.

Anyway, it's a great "moment in time" picture.
