Instructions For How To Make a Composite
What Is A Composite?

At the end of each year, a composite picture is typically taken.  Each active brother has their picture professionally taken and a composite is arranged to represent the fraternity members at that point in time.  Included in the composite are pictures of the fraternity's faculty/administration Adviser(s), as well as certain Alumni Advisers.  Officer designations appear where applicable. Typically, the more senior brothers are arranged at the top of the composite with newer brothers appearing in the lower part of the composite.  Composite pictures are typically taken in late April or early May.

For the past several years, Sigma Gamma has been utilizing the services of Robert Clark Photography, a terrific photographer in Oswego who also serves as one of the official photographers of the college as well as the Oswego Speedway.  His services are fantastic. Alumni Jason Souza ("Duff", who pledged in Fall 1998) has graciously asked his wife to assist on the layout, touching up and arranging aspects of the raw composite pictures.  When a "composite" is fully laid out, and approved by all parties (including the Alumni Advisers) efforts are then undertaken to print up and frame a large sized version of the composite.  For the past few years, alumni Bill Testa has stepped up and handled the printing and framing stages.  When a composite is fully completed and framed, typically a few small holes are neatly drilled into the frame so it stays where it is intended to.

Status of Sigma Gamma Composites

Over the years, some composites have been stolen, and many were damaged. Many that were remaining were burned in the disastrous fire of March 2015. Some composites were in a section of the house that didn't suffer as much fire, smoke and water damage and thus were able to be painstakingly repaired.  One of our alumni advisers, Bill Testa, took it himself to personally salvage and restore (10) ten of these damaged composites. It was a significant event for the fraternity when Bill personally delivered (10) ten newly restored large sized composites in April 2017.

Composite Restoration Project

Among the primary objectives of the Sigma Gamma Alumni Board is to focus on restoring historic items, values and traditions associated with Sigma Gamma Fraternity.  Towards that end, we are hoping that our alumni will "lend" their personal 9" x 12" personal composites to us so that they can be used to replicate larger sized framed composites.  This will be an ongoing effort.  Over the 2017 Alumni Weekend (70th), one alumni led the way in that regard.  Alumni brother John Garibaldi brought up his 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1974 9" x 12" version of his composites which we are going to use to replicate larger versions.  Post reunion, Jim Moses sent in 1967 and 1969.  Rob Taylor sent in 1975, 1976 and 1977.  John Matra sent in 1980.  Joe McInerney sent in 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990.  Thank you brothers!

Although there are group pictures in the History of Sigma Gamma Fraternity Book compiled by Peter Devine in 2017, there is no substitute for a large sized classic composite.

Alumni who have 11" x 14" or 9" x 12" copies of composites that we need can send them to:
