We are one of the oldest, most historic organizations at SUNY Oswego. Our color scheme is the same as the college, green and gold.
Throughout our history, some of our brothers who have made the biggest impact have in fact been transfer students. We understand, we've been in your shoes! You've transferred to a college where you might not feel as if you know a lot of your peers. Maybe you might be one of those students who feels a little intimidated that some of your new peers have built friendships already with a network of students that they've interacted with for a year or two already? Maybe you feel ... "why should I bother, I am transferring to Oswego after a year or two at another school and I should just concentrate my efforts on being a top notch student?". Maybe you worry that your parents won't think it's such a great idea to start your new school experience off by joining a fraternity?
Well, friends, we're here to tell you otherwise!
Because we are an established organization with a tremendous history of traditions and a vast alumni network, we believe making the decision to join a fraternity such as ours would be among the very best decisions you could ever make at SUNY Oswego. We are confident that you will vastly enrich your college experience by making a decision you will look back on later as one of the smartest moves you made while in college! We have no doubt whatsoever that you'll return as a proud alumni, just like so many of our alumni do, to future college reunions and the many social gatherings our alumni plan and spontaneously make happen.
As an incoming transfer student who makes the decision to join Sigma Gamma, your circle of friends and peers you can depend on and seek advice from will instantly increase as will your sense of self confidence and awareness. Our program places a premium on academic preparation and is expedited in nature, so your pre-existing sense of maturity and ability to manage your time and responsibilities will allow you to flourish. In no time at all, you'll have gone from the first day of registering and feeling insecure and maybe a bit isolated if you don't know too many of your peers, to weeks later, feeling like you truly have found your home. As a brother, you will instantly have access to a time tested platform where you can develop and implement your leadership and other skills that will benefit you throughout your life, regardless of what career path awaits you.
We know from experience that many incoming transfer students have a sense of maturity and self discipline that allows them to continue being the successful student that allowed them to gain acceptance to SUNY Oswego. Our fraternity is made collectively stronger by the contributions of individual members, and we believe you'll like what you see when you read over our original creed. We continue to live by the words our founders wrote in 1947.
