There are many reasons why you should consider joining Sigma Gamma, including but not limited to the ones we have outlined in our Membership Benefits Page.  Here are some bullet points:
  • Your college years represent the period in your life where your personal growth and development will be off the charts. Surrounding yourself with smart, fun - loving, industrious, and positive colleagues (brothers) will help you enormously as you develop your skills, improve your confidence on every level, and help you realize your full potential.

  • Any viable business, or organization needs leaders to be successful.  There are enormous opportunities for brothers to step up and develop leadership skills. We elect a new slate of officers every semester, which provides even more opportunities for brothers to diversify their leadership and team building skills.  Positions of leadership in a fraternity are terrific ways to illustrate that you are a can - do, make - it - happen person and look great on your resume.  Future employers value leadership skills.

  • Life is all about networking and developing friendships.  In our experience, adopting the "lone wolf" mindset does not prepare you to thrive in societal and community settings. When you are in a fraternity, you are constantly around others. Planning for and participating in events along with your brothers will require you to have constant dialogue with others.  Some may agree with your points of view, some may not. This will elevate your personal advocacy skills more than you we can express. You will need to advocate the reasons why you feel a certain way in certain situations, which will help you have confidence speaking publicly, and developing your reasoning skills.These types of experiences will flow naturally.  You will reap enormous benefits.

  • Our fraternity is focused on making a difference.  We regularly give back to the community through various community service and philanthropic initiatives.  You will be exposed to numerous ways to pitch in.  This will create even more of a sense of pride in your college, community and your affiliation with Sigma Gamma.

  • We understand the importance of optimizing your academic success. Your peers in the fraternity will encourage you to keep up good grades and develop productive study habits.  This emphasis starts right from the beginning.  We place an importance emphasis on study nights as an integral part of our new member education program.  We all want to do well in our schoolwork.

  • Being in the fraternity will cause you to be more responsible with your allocation of time.  Your time management skills will be tested, and you will figure it out. Mastering the art of resourcefully using your time management skills will benefit you throughout your life.

  • We are not some fly - by - night, just - started 2 years ago organization.  Nor are we a "t - shirt club" that will just hand you a t shirt when you sign up.  Quite the contrary!  We have 70 + years of incredible history in Oswego.  As you will see when you are a brother, we are enthusiastically supported by an extensive alumni base who freely give their time and resources and can serve as invaluable life and career mentors. You will want to be one of our proud alumni when your days as an active brother conclude.  And when they do, you will eagerly awaiting future college reunions to re-connect with your brothers and the many friends you will make in other Greek organizations.

  • It is fun!  Straight up, we can say without any hesitation that being in our fraternity is a fantastic experience.  Carrying out the traditions that have been passed down over the decades is incredibly satisfying to take part in.  Just look at some of the pictures on this site.  And that's not even scratching the surface. Come find out for yourself what a positive impact on your life it is to become a Sigma Gamma brother. You will be a brother for life.  The bonds of brotherhood and the extremely close friendships you will make will stay with you for your entire life.
