Site Purpose

Site Purpose
We built this site for (5) five key reasons:

  • Our fraternity has an incredible history.  We wanted an effective way of sharing elements of our history with the SUNY Oswego community. We believe that by doing so, we will create a heightened sense of awareness of our fraternity and appeal to a larger group of future potential members.

  • Because they don't know, some see fraternities as these mysterious entities, and it becomes easier for some folks to associate not positive images with Greek organizations. We know nothing could be further from the truth!  We are an organization focused on developing future leaders, and building incredibly productive lifelong friendships. We wanted our site to reflect how enthusiastic and full of pride our brothers are to be members of Sigma Gamma.

  • We are all about traditions.  Over time, if they're not documented and properly passed down through the years, some traditions can get lost or watered down. We don't want to see that.  So, while it's not practical to use a site like this to document all of our traditions, we did want to create a means to make sure that certain key knowledge gets passed along better.

  • We know there are many young college students curious about fraternities, including ours. Some young men may feel hesitant to reach out unless they feel confident that they really know some brothers.  Already knowing and being friends with a brother(s) is only one of many ways that college students can get started on the path to becoming a brother. But, it's certainly not the only way! In fact, we have had many very successful brothers who didn't know a single brother before they began the journey that led to them becoming brothers.  So, we wanted to create an easier means for all college students to reach out to us. We created the Contact Us page on this site for just that reason!

  • We have a very dedicated and engaged alumni base.  We hope that by articulating what's going on with the active fraternity, and identifying the projects we would like to undertake with resources, that we will further engage our alumni base.  So, we hope that by building this site we have created an improved pathway for our alumni to support Gamma.
